How can dogs help children with Autism?

paws workshops at Ladybug House

Ladybug House has been fortunate enough to have been approached by Assistance Dogs Australia to be the next venue to host their parents autism workshop and support (paws) program in August of this year.  Paws brings together parents of children with autism, to share experiences and explore the potential that a pet dog might have within the family. The program has been running successfully in the UK and the Netherlands for the past two years.  The workshops cover aspects such as questions you might have about owning a pet dog, how dogs can help a child with autism and selecting the right dog to live with a child with autism.... just to name a few. The workshop is fully booked however if you are thinking about a therapy dog make sure you register your interest for the next lot of workshops.  Assistance Dogs Australia is a charity that has been around for 20 years and their work is backed by research into the effectiveness of therapy dogs.To read more about the great services they offer and how the paws program fits as part of those services click through here.
